Bio: Kira came to become part of my family in Nov 2004. I was lucky that her breeder saw in the beginning of her life that she was going to be “oversized” by Sheltie Standards. This did not matter to me because I was not interested in showing or breeding or wanting a small dog. The day I went to get Kira was the day my Flyball Addiction began.
I had no idea what I was in for! For a 4 month old pup her inner strength and intensity was already bigger than her little body would hold. The herding instinct breed into Kira I soon found out that it was not the proper behavior for the Flyball World. So began the challenge. People telling me this Sheltie would never run was all it took to drive me into proving them wrong. Kira and I found extra flyball training and even walk-in practices. With the help of a few amazing people helping me Kira progressed amazingly.
Don’t tell us this Sheltie can’t do something because we will prove you wrong.
All you have to do is say, “You going to play flyball?” and Kira’s ears pop up and she goes to her bag and looks for her tug. Each time Kira gets into the flyball ring she is ready to go. She amazes me each time she runs. All I want from her is to go, “Down and Back”!!! And have fun.
Away from flyball Kira loves to play ball, run and play Frisbee. She loves to go on “Road Trips” wherever it is. Kira doesn’t like when her boy “Zakk”, or myself walks out of the house without her. She goes everywhere we do.
This 25lb Sheltie is an amazingly strong athlete, strong willed, extremely smart and I love being able to call her my pet.
